So, you’ve decided you need a new lounge suite, what’s next? There are a few important steps to take in your new sofa journey:
Decide your budget. There are many options out there, however take into account how long you want to keep this sofa or whether you will be in your current home long term. There are many good finance options out there for those that prefer using interest free.
Decide the main purpose of your lounge suite. Is it for the TV room? The family area? Maybe it’s just for an area that won’t get much use! If you have 5 people in the family that spend a lot of time on the couch, take that into consideration when testing colours, comfort and durability!
Make sure you measure your area BEFORE you decide to go online sofa browsing or shopping around. There’s nothing worse than finding your dream couch only to find it doesn’t fit in your space!
Test the lounge in-store! Spend a few minutes sitting (or lying down!) on the sofa in the showroom. You and your family will be spending hours on your new lounge, so it’s important to get a feel for its comfort.
Choose your colour. Light greys, charcoals and beige (or ‘safe”) tones are very popular, however pastel colours such as blues, greens and pinks can work provided the room is styled accordingly! Remember: you can always dress a “safe” colour up with throws, cushions and rugs!
Consider the warranty, frame and fabric durability. Remember; a good fabric choice can ensure easy cleaning and stain resistance. As for lounge frames, ensure either a steel frame or solid timber. Avoid cheap plywood and always test the sofa by pushing down in the middle of the armrest, as this will feel flexy and creak if it’s a cheaply made frame!
Avoid buying a lounge online that you haven’t sat in first! A reputable retailer should have a showroom with all the products available to try.
Remember; a new sofa is a long-term investment, and quite often will be the centerpiece of your living area. Spending a little more on a quality sofa will ensure it gives you years of service!
